ALBANY, N.Y.- The Stony Brook softball team fell short in the final game of the series against UAlbany on Sunday. The Great Danes hit a walkoff two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory. With the loss, the Seawolves are 6-5 in conference play.
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) had a strong day at the plate, tallying two hits that included a game tying two-run homer in the fifth inning.
COACH BRYANT'S THOUGHTS
"This was a battle, as we expected the third game of the series to be. We had good fight but needed to be more productive offensively, especially earlier in the game. Stepping up and capitalizing on opportunities is key in close games. We will continue to grow as a team as we head into our bye week."
SCORING SUMMARY
- The Seawolves got on the board in the top of the first after Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) singled and Rahrich doubled, Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) brought home Corr on a sac fly making it 1-0.
- UAlbany tied the game up at one in the bottom of the second on a sac fly of their own.
- The Great Danes scored a pair in the bottom of the fourth after a double came around to score on an error, and then tacked on another on a RBI single making it 3-1.
- Stony Brook evened the score up at three in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer by Rahrich bringing home Jourdin Hering (Federal Way. Wash.) after she singled.
- The teams went to extra innings, and in the bottom of the eighth UAlbany walked off with a two-run homer making it a 5-3 final.
NOTES
- Rahrich went all seven innings in the circle, only giving up three earned runs.
- Rahrich is now 9-10 on the season.
- Corr and Rahrich each tallied two hits in the defeat.
- The Seawolves are 6-5 in conference play.
