STONY BROOK, N.Y.- Led by
Chloe VanGorder's (Harvey's Lake, Pa.) first collegiate home run and a strong performance by
Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the circle, the Stony Brook softball team defeated Seton Hall on Tuesday. The Seawolves shutout the Pirates by a score of 6-0.
VanGorder's home run came in the bottom of the fifth, pinch hitting for
Ally Dabroski (Cedar Grove, N.J.). Nicole McCarvill (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and
Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) were on base, and the Harvey's Lake, Pennsylvania native brought them both home.
Denman went all seven innings in the circle, giving up no runs and striking out four.
COACH BRYANT'S THOUGHTS
"This was a solid win for us today with good pitching, timely hits and excellent defense. We were able to get the first out of the inning in six of the seven innings, and that is key. Chloe continues to do a great job for us in her pinch hitting role and was clutch once again, this time with her first collegiate home run."
SCORING SUMMARY
- The Seawolves scored a pair in the bottom of the first after Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) singled and stole second, Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) brought her home on a home run making it 2-0.
- Stony Brook made it 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth after Pechin and McCarvill singled, VanGorder came up to pinch hit and brought them both home on her first collegiate home run.
- The Seawolves tacked on a run on the bottom of the sixth after Lindsey Osmer (Martinez, Calif.) was pinch running for Pechin and Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) reached on an error, Dabroski brought home Osmer on a RBI single making it 6-0.
NOTES
- Rahrich's home run was her 11th of the season.
- VanGorder's home run was her first of the season and her college career.
- Denman is now 8-3 in the circle after earning the win.
- Corr has reached base safely in 21 straight games.
