STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior
Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) had five doubles and drove in four runs through 16 innings of doubleheader action Friday afternoon, but the Stony Brook baseball team split the two games with Albany at Joe Nathan Field.
The five doubles represented all five of Alamo's hits on Friday and redshirt-junior
Greg Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) struck out nine in the opening game to ensure the Seawolves walked away with a win in the first two games of the three-game set.
SENK'S REACTION
"Whoever it is, we always preach scoring first and scoring early. That's key anytime we go out. It's a big part of our game plan. When they scored their third run [in game one], we were able to score three and it was good that we were able to take part of that opportunity. In game two, we needed to have more at-bats like the one Brandon [Janofsky] had at the end of the game. We didn't have the at-bats that we usually did."
GAME 1 SUMMARY
- The Seawolves started the scoring in the first with sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) grounding into a fielder's choice that allowed junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) to score and make it 1-0.
- Back to back doubles from junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Alamo gave the Seawolves a 4-0 cushion after two frames.
- Albany cut the lead from four to one with a double in the third, fielder's choice in the fifth and single in the seventh to make it 4-3 after six and a half.
- Stony Brook responded with three in the seventh with a Hamilton sacrifice fly and Alamo two-run double.
- Freshman Cole Durkan (Jefferson, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly of his own to finish the game's scoring.
GAME 2 SUMMARY
- Five of the game's seven runs were scored in the first inning, starting with a three-run home run in the top of the first for Albany.
- The Seawolves got two back on a RBI double from Alamo and a RBI groundout from senior Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.).
- Albany doubled the lead in the third with a single and Alamo got it back in the sixth by scoring on a passed ball.
