BALTIMORE, MD.- Led by home runs from
Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.),
Jordyn Nowakowski (San Diego, Calif.) and
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.), the Stony Brook softball team defeated UMBC on Wednesday by a score of 6-3. With the victory, the Seawolves completed the series sweep of the Retrievers.

Along with hitting a three-run homer in the top of the seventh, Rahrich had a strong performance in the circle. The Brighton, Colorado native only gave up two earned runs, and struck out five.Â

SCORING SUMMARY
- The Seawolves got on the board in the top of the first. After Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) and Rahrich singled, Rivera brought home Hering on a RBI single making it 1-0.
- Stony Brook made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth on a solo homer by Rivera.Â
- UMBC tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff single came around to score.
- The Seawolves made it 3-1 in the top of the sixth on a home run by Nowakowski.
- UMBC added a run in the bottom of the sixth that was unearned making it 3-2.
- The Seawolves finished their scoring with three in the top of the seventh. After Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.) and Hering singled, Rahrich brought them home on a home run making it 6-2.
- The Retrievers scored a run in the bottom of seventh to make it 6-3, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.Â

The Seawolves will host UMass Lowell for a three-game weekend series. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 pm, and then a single game on Sunday at 12 pm. Prior to game one of the doubleheader on Saturday; Stony Brook will honor its seniors for Senior Day.Â
