STONY BROOK, N.Y.- Led by the offense scoring 10 runs on 10 hits and stellar pitching in the circle from
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.), the Stony Brook softball team took down UMass Lowell in the series finale. The Seawolves defeated the Riverhawks by a score of 10-1.
Rahrich went all six innings the circle, giving up only one run. She struck out five and earned her 13th victory of the season.
COACH BRYANT'S THOUGHTS
"We played great softball today in capturing an important AE series against a very good UMass Lowell team. We responded well after yesterday's loss and came out firing on all cylinders. The key offensively was that we made our adjustments and executed both with the short game and long ball. Our defense was excellent behind a solid outing from Mel."
SCORING SUMMARY
- The Seawolves scored three in the bottom of the third. After Ally Dabroski (Cedar Grove, N.J.) reached on an error and then advanced to second on sac bunt by Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.), she came around to score along with Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) after Hering reached attempting to advance Dabroski on a sac bunt.
- Stony Brook continued the inning and tacked on a third run after Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) walked, stole second and advanced third on a single by Rahrich, Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) brought home Corr on a RBI single.
- The Seawolves made it 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth after Rahrich and Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) hit back-to-back solo home runs.
- The Riverhawks got their lone run in the top of the sixth after a single eventually came around to score on a RBI double.
- Stony Brook finished its scoring in the bottom of the sixth with five runs. After Chloe VanGorder (Harvey's Lake, Pa.) and Hering singled, Corr drove in Lance (who was pinch running for VanGorder) and Hering home on a three-run homer making it 8-1.
- Rahrich continued the inning with a single and Rivera brought home Danielle Petrovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) who was pinch running for Rahrich on a two-run homer, making it a 10-1 final.

- Rahrich picked up her 13th win in the circle.
- Corr's home run was her second of the season.
- Rahrich's home run was her 13th of the season.
- Rivera now has eight home runs for the season.
- With the win, the Seawolves are 9-6 in conference play.
