Rahrich Ties Single Season RBI Record in Doubleheader Sweep with Manhattan

STONY BROOK, N.Y.- Led by strong pitching and timely hitting, the Stony Brook softball team swept a doubleheader against Manhattan on Tuesday. The Seawolves defeated the Jaspers 8-3 in game one, and 6-0 in game two.
 
Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) tallied two RBIs in game one, and then two more in game two, and is now tied for first with 52 in a Stony Brook single season with Bria Green (2015).

"These were two good team wins today and we were solid in all three facets of our game. It's important to take momentum into the Maine series and we have done the right things to put ourselves in a position to do that."
 
GAME 1: STONY BROOK 8, MANHATTAN 3
  • The Seawolves scored a pair in the bottom of the first. After Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) singled, Rahrich brought her home on a two-run homer making it 2-0.
  • Manhattan tied the game up at two in the top of the second on a two-run homer of their own.
  • Stony Brook scored three in the bottom of the third. After Corr singled and stole second, and Rahrich singled, Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) brought home Corr on a RBI single making it 3-2.
  • Jordyn Nowakowski (San Diego, Calif.) then brought home Rahrich and Craig on a RBI double making it 5-2.
  • The Jaspers tacked on a run in the top of the sixth making it 5-3.
  • Stony Brook added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. After Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) reached on an error, Corr brought her home on a RBI double making it 6-3.
  • Craig then brought home Corr on a two-run homer making it a 8-3 final.
 
NOTES
  • Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) pitched all seven innings in the circle, and struck out eight. Denman earned her 10th victory of the season.
  • Rahrich's home run was her 14th of the season.
  • Craig's home run was her sixth of the season.
 
GAME 2: STONY BROOK 6, MANHATTAN 0
  • The Seawolves scored a pair in the bottom of the first. After Hering singled and Corr walked, Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) brought home Hering on a RBI single making it 1-0.
  • Chloe VanGorder (Harvey's Lake, Pa.) then brought home Rivera on a RBI single making it 2-0.
  • Rahrich hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third making it 3-0.
  • Stony Brook finished its scoring with three in the bottom of the fifth. After Hering singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout, Rahrich brought her home on a RBI double making it 4-0.
  • Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) then brought home Ally Dabroski (Cedar Grove, N.J.) who was pinch running for Rahrich, on a two-run homer making it a 6-0 final.
 
NOTES
  • Rahrich went all seven innings in the circle, earning her 14th win of the season.
  • Rahrich's home run was her 15th of the season.
  • Pechin's home run was her second of the season.
  • Rahrich's 52 RBIs ties Bria Green (2015) for most in a single season, is tied for third in home runs in a single season with Kristen Brust (2004), and fourth in single season batting average (.409).
 
ON DECK
The Seawolves will head to Maine at the end of the week for their last America East regular season series. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 pm on Friday, followed by a single game at noon on Saturday.
