STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior
Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) threw seven-plus strong innings to start things and his classmate,
Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.), hit a three-run home run to cap a four-run sixth inning and the Stony Brook baseball team finds itself one win away from an America East Championship after a 5-4 win over Binghamton in a winner's bracket game Friday.
SENK'S REACTION
"Pitching, defense and timely hitting win baseball games and we executed that today, especially
Bret Clarke's tremendous outing and
Sean Buckhout's big three run home run. We are excited to be in tomorrow's championship game and look forward to continue playing at our best"
GAME SUMMARY
- As they did yesterday, the Seawolves got on the board first when senior Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch in the second inning.
- After Binghamton's two-run homer in the sixth gave them the lead, Alamo tied it back up in the bottom half, grounding out to short to score junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.).
- Buckhout then hit a 1-1 pitch down the right field line that hit the outside of the foul pole and the umpires ruled it was a home run to give the Seawolves a 5-2 lead after six.
- A sacrifice fly and RBI groundout brought the Bearcats within one but junior Sam Turcotte (Toronto, Ontario) stranded the tying run at third base in the ninth.
STATS AND NOTES
- Buckhout's home run was the first of his career. He also matched his career high with three RBI on the day, a mark he had not hit since 2017.

- Clarke improved to 8-0 on the season, allowing three runs on three hits in seven-plus innings.

- The senior is now seventh on the Division I list with 254.2 innings in his career, passing Tyler Honahan and Nick Tropeano.
- Turcotte finished off his seventh save of the season, bringing him into a tie for third for most saves in a single season in Seawolves history.
