Stony Brook Adds Seven Transfers to 2019 Squad

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook football and head coach Chuck Priore are excited to welcome seven transfers to the Seawolves football program. Of the six signees, two hail from the state of Florida and one each from Arizona, Maryland, Kentucky and Texas. 
 
"As we embark on the 2019 season I am excited to announce the addition of quality student athletes to our team," Priore said. "Our on the field goals as a program are to continue to be an elite CAA team as well as a national power. I believe this group of transfers certainly provide us with the depth and experience necessary to compete at the highest level. We were excited about the 2019 season before these young men joined our team, so there is added reason for great optimism and excitement as we come together over the summer months."
 
You can catch the 2019 Seawolves at any home game in LaValle Stadium this fall. The 2019 home schedule opens Thursday night August 29th vs. Bryant and includes in-state rivals Wagner and Fordham early in the year. CAA Football opponents come to town beginning October 5th for a Homecoming matchup vs. James Madison. Other conference games include CAA foes New Hampshire, Towson and UAlbany. Brandon Benson - WR - 6'1" 215
Waco, Texas - La Vega (Southern Methodist)
 
Transfer Wide Receiver from Southern Methodist University (TX) with two years of eligibility. Consensus three-star recruit by all major recruiting services and one of the top WR's in state of Texas in 2016. After leading his team to an undefeated regular season, Benson capped off a brilliant scholastic career with an eight catch 109-yard performance in his team's state championship game victory. Benson redshirted in his initial season with SMU and appeared in a total of ten contests over the last two seasons.
 
Jean Constant - WR/RET- 5'9 185
Delray Beach, FL - Village Academy (Bryant)
 
Transfer Wide Receiver and return specialist from Bryant University (RI) joins the Seawolves as a graduate transfer. After redshirting in 2014, Constant went on to a marvelous career statistically for the Bulldogs, totaling 1,336 career receiving yards on 107 receptions. In addition, he had 1,694 return yards while reaching pay dirt a total of 23 times. Constant, who will be bringing his playmaking ability across the sound to Long Island for his final collegiate campaign, was named to multiple All American teams after the 2017 and 2018 seasons including the Walter Camp, Phil Steele and STATS.

Thomas Dutton - TE - 6'6" 245
Columbia, MO - Hickman (Air Force)

Transfer Tight End from the Air Force Academy who arrives with four years of eligibility. Consensus two star recruit by all major recruiting services as a two way standout in the class of 2017. Dutton spent one year at the Air Force Academy Prep School before redshirting in his one season at the Academy. 

Sean Hammonds Jr - DL - 6'1 250
Louisville, KY - Ballard (Ball State)
 
Transfer Defensive End from Ball State (IN) joins the Seawolves as a graduate transfer. Hammonds was a consensus two-star recruit out of high school and was a mainstay along the Defensive Line for Ball State throughout his career. Appearing in 28 total games with 10 starts for the Cardinals, Hammonds amassed 27 total tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss. In high school he served as Captain and led Ballard to three district championships while accumulating 171 total tackles and 31 sacks over his career.
 
Keirston Johnson - LB - 6'0 215
Jacksonville, FL - Robert E. Lee (South Florida)
 
Transfer Linebacker from South Florida with two years of eligibility. Johnson was consensus three-star recruit in high school and was a first-team Florida 7A all-state selection as a senior. The 63rd-ranked LB in the nation made an immediate impact at South Florida on Special Teams and as a reserve Linebacker in his true freshman season. Over his two years with the Bulls, Johnson appeared in 18 games and piled up 13 tackles, one interception and two passes defended.

Carter McCarthy – TE – 6'2 230
Scottsdale, Arizona – Horizon (University of Texas – San Antonio)

Transfer Tight End from UTSA with two years of eligibility. Appeared in 10 games in 2018 season for the Roadrunners. Averaged almost nine yards per catch on 6 receptions and also recorded one touchdown. Also saw extensive action on special teams. Transferred to UTSA after a successful season at Mesa Community College in 2017 where he hauled in 12 catches for 289 yards (24.1 yards/catch) and 3 touchdowns. 
 
James Tunstall - OL - 6'5" 305
Indian Head, MD - Lackey (UConn)
 
Transfer Offensive Lineman from UConn with three years of eligibility. Tunstall was a former two-star recruit according to Rivals and 247 Sports. As a senior, the massive Offensive Tackle paved the way for his high school to average over 300 yards rushing per game in his senior season (2016). Over his junior and senior campaigns, James amassed 25 pancake blocks. After redshirting in his first season at UConn, he saw significant action in five contests in 2018.
