Rahrich’s Two-Run Homer Leads Stony Brook to Doubleheader Split at Maine

ORONO, ME.- The Stony Brook softball team split a doubleheader with Maine on Saturday. The Seawolves dropped game one by a score of 7-3, but took game two by a score of 5-0.
 
In the game two win, Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) went all seven innings in the circle, striking out seven. The junior picked up her 16th win in the circle, and finished the regular season with a 16-11 record.
 
COACH BRYANT'S THOUGHTS
"We didn't do enough in the first game today to help ourselves win, but we did respond well to play our game in game two and win the series. Mel threw a great game, our offense was productive and our defense was excellent. It's a good way to finish the regular season and we look forward to the America East Tournament next week."
 
GAME 1: MAINE 7, STONY BROOK 3
  • The Seawolves got on the board in the top of the first. After Katelyn Corr (Suffield, Conn.) walked, Rahrich brought her home on a RBI double making it 1-0.
  • The Black Bears tied the game up at one in the bottom of first after a leadoff single came around to score on a RBI single.
  • Stony Brook scored a pair in the top of the third. After Corr singled, Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) brought her home a two-run homer making it 3-1.
  • Maine responded with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third tying the game up at three.
  • The Black Bears took a 4-3 lead in bottom of the third on a leadoff home run.
  • Maine tacked on three in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 7-3 final.
 
NOTES
  • Shelbi Denman (Las Vegas, Nev.) started in the circle, and went three innings while giving up four runs. 
  • Taylor Pechin (Harrington, Del.) went the other three innings in the circle, giving up three runs.
  • Rivera's home run was her ninth of the season.
 
GAME 2: STONY BROOK 5, MAINE 0
  • The Seawolves scored a pair in the top of the third. After Corr reached on a fielder's choice, Rahrich brought her home on a home run making it 2-0.
  • Stony Brook added a run in the top of the fourth. After Riley Craig (Thornton, Colo.) doubled, Alina Lance (New Athens, Ill.) brought her home on a RBI groundout making it 3-0.
  • The Seawolves added another run in the top of the fifth. After Corr singled, advanced to second on an error and then third on a groundout, Pechin drove her in on a RBI single making it 4-0.
  • Stony Brook made it 5-0 in the top of the sixth. After Craig doubled, Danielle Petrovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) who was pinch running for her scored on a RBI groundout by Lance.
 
NOTES
  • Rahrich went all seven innings in the circle, picking up her 16th win of the season.
  • Rahrich's home run was her 17th of the season.
  • With the win, the Seawolves took the series from Maine, and finish the regular season 11-7 in conference play.
 
ON DECK
The #3 seeded Seawolves will take on #6 seeded Binghamton in the America East Championship Tournament in Hartford at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, May 8.
