Seawolves Travel to Hempstead to Battle Hofstra

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Fresh off its first win of the 2019 season, the Stony Brook men's soccer team hits the road to take on Hofstra on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. from Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Seawolves Notes
  • The Seawolves topped Siena, 2-1 on Friday night at LaValle Stadium.
  • Freshman Birkir Gudmundsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) notched his first-career goal in the win. Senior Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) scored the game-winner on a header in the 69th minute.
  • Stony Brook sits at 1-3-1 on the season.
  • Dass is the team's leading goal-scorer with three so far this season. Senior Mark Irvine (Southampton, England) has two assists, leading the team.
  • Freshman Edmond Kaiser (Karlsruhe, Germany) has started three of the team's five games in net. He owns a 2.00 GAA.
  • Senior Gustavo Fernandes (West Babylon, N.Y.) has spent 470 minutes on the pitch this season, the only Seawolf to play every minute of the season.
  • The Seawolves are coming off a 9-6-3 season a year ago. They captured the America East regular season title, compiling a 5-1-1 record in conference play.
  • The squad returns seven starters from 2018, including leading goal-scorer and America East First Team member, Dass, along with Fernandes, an America East Second Team member.
  • The Seawolves bring in ten newcomers, including eight freshman along with transfers Kelechi Akujobi (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Kori Cupid (Chaguanas, Trinidad).
  • The 2019 recruiting class consisted off three incoming goalkeepers, who join Montenegro as the team's net protectors.
The Series with Hofstra
  • The two sides first met in 1965. Stony Brook owns a 10-16-6 all-time record against the Pride.
  • Hofstra topped the Seawolves, 2-0 when the two schools met a season ago.
Scouting Hofstra
  • The Pride are 3-2-0 (1-1-0 CAA) this season, most recently shutting out College of Charleston, 3-0 on Saturday.
  • Freshman Frederik Rieper leads Hofstra in goals with three.
  • Graduate student Alex Ashton has started all five games in net. He has a 1.20 GAA.
  • Hofstra went 10-6-5 (5-2-1 CAA) a season ago, winning six of its seven home contests. The squad made a trip to the CAA Title Game, falling to James Madison on penalty kicks.
  • The Pride were selected third in the CAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • Richard Nuttall is in his 31st season at the helm in Hempstead. He is the winningest coach in program history.
