STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Every player that dons the pads, jersey and helmet dreams of one day playing professional football and that is no different in the case of Stony Brook football graduate transfer Jean Constant (Delray Beach, Fla./Village Academy/Bryant).

Although, in Constant's case, his route to try and accomplish his dream has been a little different as he leads the Seawolves into Saturday's CAA Football opener at Rhode Island. Kickoff at Meade Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

"Hopefully it is bright," Constant spoke about his future. "With God's grace hopefully I can play at the next level. That's the goal. That's always been the goal."

Constant came to Stony Brook after a very successful undergraduate career at Bryant where he was named to multiple All-America teams in both 2017 and 2018 as a receiver and kick and punt returner for the Bulldogs.

"After spring ball I decided that I wanted to move in a different direction so I entered the (transfer) portal and went along with the NCAA process," Constant recalls the process of coming to Stony Brook. "Coach (Omar) King asked me if I wanted to come here and I said 'If I'm allowed' because Bryant was on the schedule."

King's pursuit of Constant and the involvement of many other coaches on the Seawolves' staff helped him make the decision to continue reaching for his dreams of playing at the next level on Long Island.

"Multiple (Stony Brook) coaches reached out to me that included the head coach and I felt that was different from all the other schools," Constant added. "I only spoke with recruiting coordinators at some of the other schools. I felt that they really showed me the love for me here during the whole process. That's what drove me to come to Stony Brook."

Constant will return to the state where he played his undergraduate career on Saturday is ready to be able to play in front of some family and close friends again.

"This is just another week and it will be great to go back to Rhode Island," Constant said. "I'm pretty sure some of the guys I know will come to our game because they (Bryant) play earlier in the day. My sister and niece and nephew will be there so it will be exciting, but it is just another week of work and another opportunity to go out there and play the game that I love."

Saturday won't be the first time this season Constant will have played in front of some of his closest friends. Stony Brook opened the season and Constant's Seawolves career on Aug. 29 against his former squad with a 35-10 victory in Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

"There was excitement, but it was also kind of like a scary movie that you just want to get through," Constant remembered. "That's the best way to explain it. It was great and I'm glad that it is over and I felt much more comfortable in the Utah State game than I did in the Bryant game which is shocking to most people."

Constant has become very comfortable in the Stony Brook offense and special teams now after four games. He recorded 301 all-purpose yards that includes 178 receiving yards and 127 punt return yards. He has also hauled in a pair of receiving touchdowns this season.

"I'm getting more comfortable with the offense each week. I get with Ty(quell Fields) and receiver coach (Caleb Haynes) and am always asking questions," Constant said. "There is always room for improvement, but I feel that I am in a good space and very comfortable right now."
