Stony Brook Athletics Announces Enhanced Fan Experience Options with Beer and Wine Sales

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- In a continued effort to enhance the fan experience at Stony Brook University athletic events, the school has announced plans to sell beer and wine in public areas of LaValle Stadium and Island Federal Arena as part of a pilot program in 2019-20.  The program will be introduced for the first time when the Stony Brook football team squares off against Wagner on September 14 at 6 p.m.

"This initiative is intended to enhance the fan experience while maintaining a safe and enjoyable game day atmosphere for all of our fans," said Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron.  "We have worked closely with campus leadership and relied upon best practices of other schools to ensure the responsible implementation of this plan."

This fall, beer and wine sales will be available to all fans ages 21 and over at home football and basketball games.  CulinArt, SBU Athletics' concessionaire, will manage alcohol sales at those venues within the scope of the University's alcohol policy which will require beverages to be served in a cup and that no more than two beverages may be purchased at one time.  Every transaction will require a valid ID.

In addition, while beer and wine will be sold at most of the concession stands throughout the facility, it will not be sold at the stands closest to the student section.
