Stony Brook Set for Two-Game Road Trip

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team will hit the road for a two-game trip, taking on Fairfield on Saturday night and Saint Joseph's on Tuesday night. Both games are set to get underway at 7 P.M.

Seawolves Notes
  • Stony Brook dropped its home opener to Big Ten-foe Penn State, 4-1 on Monday night.
  • Senior Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) scored the lone goal for the Seawolves in the loss.
  • The Seawolves are coming off a 9-6-3 season a year ago. They captured the America East regular season title, compiling a 5-1-1 record in conference play.
  • The squad returns seven starters from 2018, including leading goal-scorer and America East First Team member, Dass, along with America East Second Team member, senior defenseman Gustavo Fernandes (West Babylon, New York). 
  • The Seawolves bring in ten newcomers, including eight freshman along with transfers Kelechi Akujobi (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Kori Cupid (Chaguanas, Trinidad).
  • The 2019 recruiting class consisted off three incoming goalkeepers, who join sophomore Yamil Montenegro (Merida, Mexico) as the team's net protectors.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Edmond Kaiser (Karlsruhe, Germany) has played all 180 minutes in net for the Seawolves.
The Series with Fairfield
  • The two sides have met just once, a 2011 matchup in Stony Brook.
  • The Seawolves topped the Stags, 4-1.
Scouting Fairfield
  • The Stags are 1-0-1 so far this year, most recently topping Saint Joseph's, 1-0 in OT.
  • Fairfield went 11-5-2 overall last season, including an unbeaten slate in conference play. Their season concluded in the MAAC Tournament Semifinals.
  • The squad was tabbed the preseason favorite in the MAAC Coaches' Poll.
  • Goalkeeper Gordon Botterill has accumulated all the time in net so far this season. He was named 2018 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year.
  • Fairfield head coach Carl Rees is in his 24th season at the helm. 
The Series with Saint Joseph's
  • Tuesday's matchup will be the third all-time between the two sides. Stony Brook has taken both contests so far.
  • SBU and SJU last met a season ago at LaValle Stadium, with Serge Gamwanya scoring both goals to lead the Seawolves to a 2-1 win.
Scouting Saint Joseph's
  • The Hawks are 0-2-0 in the 2019 campaign, last falling to Fairfield on Wednesday night.
  • Last season saw SJU go 8-7-3, including a 2-3-3 record in Atlantic 10 play.
  • The team went unbeaten at home a year ago.
  • Saint Joseph's was picked to finish eighth in the A10 Coaches' Poll. 
  • Leon Maric returns to the Hawks after leading the conference in goals last season.
  • Head coach Dan D'Ambra is in his tenth season leading the Hawks.
