STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook men's basketball team is now poised to face St. John's for the first time in 11 years.
Coach
Geno Ford has added the Red Storm to the schedule for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.
The game will be televised by FS1.
The Seawolves open their season on Tuesday night at 6 against Saint Peter's in Jersey City after having recent games against Bryant and Sacred Heart canceled.
Stony Brook next is scheduled to face Fairfield on Friday at 4 p.m. at Island Federal Arena, which will leave limited preparation time for Sunday's matchup against St. John's in Jamaica.
St. John's, currently 3-0 after wins against Saint Peter's (76-75), La Salle (82-65) and Boston College (97-93), originally had been scheduled to face Sacred Heart on Sunday. The Pioneers are on a two-week COVID-related hiatus.
Stony Brook and St. John's last met on Dec. 2, 2009 — a 63-55 Red Storm victory in Jamaica. Recently selected Stony Brook Athletics Hall of Famer Bryan Dougher led three Seawolves in double-figures with 13 points and the Seawolves held St. John's to 39.6 percent shooting, but D.J. Kennedy scored a game-high 19 points for the Red Storm in that meeting.
