BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Another close call for the Stony Brook tennis program, needing a point in one of the final two singles clashes to earn its first win of 2020.
Lehigh battled back though, closing out the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches to earn a 4-3 victory over the Seawolves in Stony Brook's first of two matches in Pennsylvania this weekend.
"Once again, we had our chances but could not convert some key points," head coach
Gary Glassman said. "That was the difference and Lehigh deserves all the credit for staying in there and competing at every spot."
Glassman's squad started strong winning 16 of 20 games in the doubles portion of the match, earning wins at second and third to take the point into the singles section.
Maria Ribeiro and
Mathilde Sreeves added wins in singles to put the Seawolves up 3-2 but Ella Imhof and Casey Zhong defeated
Kristine Theys and
Loreto Villalba-Rubio at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, to come back for the overall match victory.
The Seawolves return to action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Penn for a Noon first serve in Philadelphia.
