PHILADELPHIA — A pair of singles matches went to tiebreakers, but the Stony Brook tennis team finished on the wrong end of a 7-0 scoreline on Sunday afternoon against Penn.
"UPenn was the better team today," head coach
Gary Glassman said. "However, we competed well and had our chances at a few spots."
In singles,
Maria Pinto Ribeiro and
Mathilde Sreeves had tense, three-set encounters, taking the final frame to 10 points before eventually falling. Ribeiro took the second set of her match, while Sreeves earned a first-set victory.
The first and second doubles matches went to the Quakers by identical 6-3 scores.
"We have to put this behind us and continue to get ready for Bonaventure," Glassman said.
The Seawolves next weekend of competition begins at West Point on Friday night against St. Bonaventure. Stony Brook then faces Quinnipiac on Saturday night in Hamden, Conn.
