STONY BROOK, N.Y. — One is a conference champion. The other netted a pair of game-winning overtime goals.
Amanda Stead, a junior on the Stony Brook women's track and field team, and
Caleb Pearson, a sophomore men's lacrosse student-athlete, were named the Centereach Hyundai Student-Athletes of the Month on Friday.
Last weekend, Stead claimed her second America East title by capturing the 200 meter race with a school record time of 24.18. She also anchored the Seawolves' 4x400 relay team that posted a runner-up finish at the conference indoor championships.
The Miller Place, N.Y., native also broke a pair of school records during the month of February with a time of 54.15 in the the 400m and a 3:43.58 time in the 4x400 relay.
Pearson scored a team-best 10 goals in February to help the men's lacrosse team open with a 3-1 record. The Langly, B.C., native scored a pair of game-winning overtime goals as well. He scored the winner in the season-opening victory against St. John's, then blasted the OT winner against Brown. He had a pair of four-goal games during the month.
