STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Despite the distance between them,
Ally Kennedy and the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team united together on Monday for a greater cause.
The team participated in the Last Shift Virtual 5K Challenge, which was put on through the HEADstrong Foundation, to raise funds for cancer patients who are especially vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus.
Nationwide, there were over 2,000 registered runners and close to $100,000 raised in donations.
"It was an honor to be selected as an ambassador for such an amazing cause," said Kennedy, who was one of three collegiate lacrosse players to be selected to help organize the campaign. "On top of all of that, to have all of my teammates participate and fully support what I was a part of is something I'm so grateful for."
Runners participated in the challenge by completing a five-kilometer run and broadcasting it through their personal social media channels with the hashtag #LastShift2020.
Donations for the HEADstrong Foundation are still be accepted and can be made
