STONY BROOK, N.Y. — One of the biggest events of the year for the Stony Brook Athletics Department couldn't be held down due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The Wolfies, the annual celebration for the Seawolves' student-athletes, went virtual and the three-night event kicked off on Monday night. The awards will also be held Wednesday and Friday at 5 p.m. on the Stony Brook Athletics Facebook page.
On night one, four awards were handed out starting with the Male and Female NSCA All-American Awards, which recognizes an individual's athletic accomplishments and their dedication to strength and conditioning. The recipient of this award is usually student-athlete who demonstrated consistency, discipline, and commitment to doing the little things right every single day behind the scenes.
This year's winners were football's
Augie Contressa and softball's
Jourdin Hering.
The final two awards handed out on night one of the Wolfies were the Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
The recipients for the 2019-20 year were
Andrew Bearkland from the men's cross country/track and field teams and
Jillian Manfredi from the women's cross country/track and field teams.
Bearkland, a senior, recorded a 3.99 cumulative GPA while majoring in political science and sociology with a minor it international studies and Asian American studies.
Manfredi, also a senior, earned a 3.84 cumualtive GPA as an English major.
Monday also included a video of some of the milestones reached during the 2019-20 seasons as well as a blooper reel that contained some of the more priceless moments of the year.
