2020 Virtual Wolfies: Six Awards Handed out on Day 2

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Six more awards were handed out on Wednesday night during the second day of the 2020 Wolfies.

The Wolfies, the annual celebration for the Seawolves' student-athletes, went virtual this year and the three-night event kicked off on Monday night. The awards conclude on Friday at 5 p.m. on the Stony Brook Athletics Facebook page.

Wednesday got started with the presentation of the male and female Seawolves Impact Awards. These awards are given to a male and female student-athlete who've made an extraordinary impact on not just the  Stony Brook athletic department, but on campus and in local community as well.

The 2020 recipients were senior Cameron Avery of the men's cross country and track and field teams, and senior volleyball player Kardasia Hitchcock.

The next two awards are named in honor of two members of the Seawolves family whose lives ended too soon. Danni Kemp, from the softball team, and Noah Farrelly from the cross country and track and field teams.

Danni passed away in 2017 after a brave battle with cancer. Noah passed away in 2018 from complications after being struck by a car during a run near campus.

The Danni Kemp Teammate of the Year Award is given to pair of student-athlete who demonstrated the characteristics of Danni Kemp. A student-athlete that exemplifies selflessness on and off the field, serves as a role model to teammates and the community and demonstrates a commitment to cultivating a positive team culture.

The 2020 Awards, presented by Danni's parents Cliff and Melinda Kemp, were handed out to Danny Cassidy a junior on the men's lacrosse team, and Kyra Dixon, a senior member of the women's basketball team.

The Noah Farrelly Spirit Award is given to a male and female student-athlete who exemplifies the passion and pride for their Stony Brook Athletics experience, just as Noah did in his short time with Stony Brook. The recipient of this award recognizes the great opportunity he or she has to be part of this Stony Brook Athletics family and shows pride when putting on the Seawolves' logo.

This year's recipients were senior Spencer Payton from the track and field team, and Sydney Gagnon, a senior member of the women's lacrosse team.

Wednesday also included a video of some of the memorable moments and fantastic finishes the 2019-20 seasons as well as another blooper reel that contained some of the more priceless moments of the year.

Stay tuned to Stony Brook Athletics Facebook on Friday at 5 p.m. for final night of the Virtual Wolfies when three more awards will be handed out.
