TOWSON, Md. – For the third time in his career Stony Brook University redshirt junior running back
Ty Son Lawton registered a two-rushing touchdown game. Lawton racked up 119 yards on the ground and punched in a pair of scores from one-yard and 41 yards out, respectively, but the Seawolves were defeated by Towson, 21-14.
Towson struck first in the game as it scored on its opening drive. The Tigers concluded a 16-play, 62-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run by Devin Matthews. Stony Brook responded on the ensuing drive as Lawton punched in his first of two scores on the day.
The Seawolves got the ball back with 6:07 to play in the first quarter and put together a 15-play, 85-yard drive that concluded with a one-yard touchdown plunge by Lawton. Stony Brook marched down the field as graduate quarterback
Tyquell Fields led the charge on the Seawolves' opening drive. Fields connected on five passes ahead of the touchdown run by Lawton.
After the teams traded punts, Towson would go ahead, 14-7, following a seven-yard touchdown catch from Darian Street with 1:59 to play in the second quarter. The Tigers had a chance to add three points with a field goal as time expired in the first half, but Stony Brook's redshirt senior defensive back
Randy Pringle broke through the offensive line and blocked the field goal attempt to close out the half.
Towson extended its lead to 21-7 with 1:08 to play in the third quarter on a seven-yard touchdown catch by Jabari Allen. The Seawolves continued to fight and forced a crucial turnover with 10:38 to play in the fourth quarter. Towson's Jason Epps caught a seven-yard pass and tried to break the goal line heading into the end zone. Epps was denied by redshirt sophomore defensive back
Jordan Jackson, who knocked the ball out of his hands and it went out of the end zone for a touchback.
Stony Brook capitalized on the turnover by putting together a seven-play, 80-yard drive that was capped off with Lawton's 41-yard touchdown run. Lawton took a handoff up the middle of the field and went nearly untouched into the end zone for his sixth rushing score of the season.
The Seawolves came up with a big stop on third down that forced a Towson punt and got the ball back with a chance to tie up the game with 4:43 to play in the fourth quarter. Stony Brook drove down the field behind Fields and got the ball to the Tigers' 22-yard line with 22 seconds to play. The Seawolves' comeback attempt was stopped there as they were turned away on third and fourth downs, sealing the game for Towson.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"I thought it was a very physical and hard-fought game. There was enough back-and-forth play that warranted a good spectator's fan. It's the third league game now that it came down to one score, last possession, fourth down to win a game. That's CAA football and the quality of it," said head coach
Chuck Priore.
"Ty Son had another quality game. Once again, we came out knowing they pack the box, and they play good run defense. I know statistically, North Dakota State and San Diego State ran the ball against them, but they are a physical team. We came in trying to be a 50-50 team; I think it was good, but obviously, Ty Son's long touchdown run in the fourth quarter got us back into the game, and his consistent carries were positive," said Priore.
