SERIES HISTORY: The Seawolves and Red Storm are no strangers to each other as this matchup marks the eighth time these teams have gone head-to-head. Stony Brook is 1-6 against St. John's with their only win taking place in Queens on Dec. 16, 2001, where they defeated the Red Storm 65-51. The last time these two teams met was Nov. 15, 2009 in Stony Brook, where St. John's defeated Stony Brook 89-52.

Anastasia Warren were both tabbed to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Stony Brook went 15-6 and 11-3 in the America East and made its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance facing the No. 3 seed Arizona in 2021. Stony Brook led the America East in scoring defense (52.0 ppg), blocked shots (75), rebounds (792), and rebound margin (+6.6). The Seawolves ranked fourth in the entire nation in scoring defense. Stony Brook has captured each of the last two America East Championships. In 2021, the Seawolves defeated Maine, 64-60, to claim its second championship in a row.
LAST TIME OUT: The Seawolves defeated Longwood, 82-63, in their second game of the season on Friday, November 12, in Farmville, Va. Langford became the first head coach since Dec McMullen in 1982 to start 2-0 in their debut season. The 82-point win was the first time scoring 80 or more points in back-to-back games since November 2018. It was the fourth time in Stony Brook's Division I era that it has done so. More than half of the 82 points scored by the Seawolves came from senior guard Annie Warren and junior guard
Gigi Gonzalez, as the two combined for 49. Gonzalez recorded a new career-high for the second consecutive game with 20 points. Warren raked in 29 points in Virginia becoming the Seawolves scoring leader for this season. She was only three points shy of beating her single-game record of 31 points, which came against Maine in the America East Championship.
ABOUT THE RED STORM: The Red Storm went 8-15 and 4-12 Big East during the 2020-21 season. Joe Tartamella returns for his tenth season as St. John's head coach. Tartamella currently sits second on the program's all-time win list with his 171-115 record. He is only six wins away from becoming the winningest coach in program history. Junior guard Leilani Correa returns as the team's leading scorer, averaging 17.6 points per game in 22 starts. She totaled 22 points against Fairleigh Dickinson in the Red Storm's season opener, second to senior forward Rayven Peeples ,who scored 24. The Red Storm were picked to finish seventh in the Big East Preseason Poll.
