Rutgers defeated Fairfield, 48-42, in their last game on Sunday.
SERIES HISTORY: This matchup marks only the third time the Seawolves and Scarlet Knights have gone head-to-head. Stony Brook is 0-2 against Rutgers with the most recent game taking place on November. 9, 2018, when the Seawolves fell to the Scarlet Knights, 61-47. The Seawolves are 1-10 against Big Ten opponents. The only win came from defeating the Penn State on November 25, 2018, in University Park, Pa.

Anastasia Warren were both tabbed to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Stony Brook went 15-6 and 11-3 in the America East and made its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance facing the No. 3 seed Arizona in 2021. Stony Brook led the America East in scoring defense (52.0 ppg), blocked shots (75), rebounds (792), and rebound margin (+6.6). The Seawolves ranked fourth in the entire nation in scoring defense. Stony Brook has captured each of the last two America East Championships. In 2021, the Seawolves defeated Maine, 64-60, to claim its second championship in a row.
LAST TIME OUT: Stony Brook had not defeated a current Big East member since December 7, 2004, that changed on Sunday as it toppled St. John's (1-1), 72-60. It was the Seawolves' second win against SJU and first since December 16, 2001. The 12-point margin of victory was all about winning the battle at the boards. Stony Brook went up strong on the glass to pull down 46 rebounds,
India Pagan accounted for nine leading the team in rebounds for the game. Half of the points scored by the Seawolves were finished in the paint (32) and scored off turnovers (13). Warren led the team in points for the second-straight game tallying 19 points.
ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS: The Scarlet Knights went 14-5 and 10-3 in the Big Ten during the 2020-21 season. Timothy Eatman serves as the acting head coach (seventh on the women's basketball staff). Eatman first stepped into the role of acting head coach for the remaining six games of the 2018-19 season. Rutgers finished third (highest ever) in the Big Ten and saw its first-ever Big Ten Tournament semifinal appearance under Eatman. Redshirt junior forward Tyia Singleton is the only starter to return from the 2020-21 season. She averaged 6.7 points per game over 19 starts last season. Singleton totaled six points against Fairfield, second to graduate forward Osh Brown who scored eight points. Rutgers defeated Fairfield, 48-42, in their last game to secure its third-straight win at home to open the season.
