STONY BROOK, N.Y. — She did it again!
For the second time in two seasons,
Dawn Bodrug has produced a no-hitter.
This time, Bodrug stymied Binghamton in a 1-0 win in the America East opener on Saturday at University Field.
Stony Brook then went on to the doubleheader sweep with a 10-0 win in Game 2.
The latter victory was the 900th of coach
Megan T. Bryant's career. She was doused by her players with a water bucket afterward.
Bodrug retired 18 straight batters between issuing a two-out walk in the first inning and a two-out error in the seventh.
That included a stellar defensive play by shortstop
Nicole McCarvill, diving up the middle, to retire the leadoff batter in the seventh.
Bodrug actually faced two on with two outs in the one-run game in the seventh before notching a game-ending strikeout.
Jourdin Hering's opposite-field solo homer in the third inning proved the game's lone score.
Bodrug, a senior right-hander from Georgetown, Ontario, had tossed the program's first perfect game since 2012 last season against Cornell.
Earlier this season, she flirted with a perfect game against Rhode Island, retiring the first 17 batters.
"It means so much to get an achievement like this because I know it came from the whole team," Bodrug said. "I can't have that no-hitter under my name without amazing defense behind me. It's so much fun playing with a team that hypes each other up and has each other's backs.
"As far as having the tying run on base in the seventh, I really just had to take myself back a step and go back to basics, trusting one pitch at a time instead of trying to be a hero with a strikeout."
