Box Score 2 FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Stony Brook softball team was bidding to improve to 6-0 on Sunday.
Unfortunately for the Seawolves, after topping host Sacred Heart, 6-0, in the opener, and one out from a win in Game 2, Stony Brook suffered a 5-4 nine-inning loss in the nightcap.
Playing its first game in two weeks,
Dawn Bodrug tossed a three-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts in Game 1. The Seawolves pounced in a two-run first inning with an RBI single from
Riley Craig and sacrifice fly from
Jordyn Nowakowski.
In Game 2, the Seawolves similarly pounced with a two-run first inning, highlighted by
Melissa Rahrich's RBI double. And after Sacred Heart evened the score in the bottom half,
Jourdin Hering answered with a two-run homer in the top of the second.
With Stony Brook leading 4-3, Rahrich was one out from a complete game with two out in the seventh and none on. But Sacred Heart pushed the tying run across in the frame to prompt extra innings.
The Seawolves dropped to 5-1.
Stony Brook returns to action Wednesday with a single game at Seton Hall at 2:30 p.m.
