STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For the sixth year, the Stony Brook softball team will take the field in honor of Danni Kemp as the Seawolves head to Milford, Connecticut on Saturday, September 26 for the Sixth Annual Danni Kemp Memorial Tournament.

The tournament will take place at Danielle Kemp Memorial Field at Foran High School, Danni's alma mater.

A three-sport athlete while at Foran, Danni eventually committed to Stony Brook and was a member of the softball team from 2016-17. On March 10, 2017, she passed away after a fierce battle with an inoperable brain tumor known as DIPG. During the spring of 2020, Foran High School announced that it was dedicating its newly renovated softball field in the memory of Danni. Since 2021, Stony Brook, Sacred Heart, Fairfield, and the community of Milford have come together on the field every September to honor Danni.

The 2026 tournament begins at 11:00 am on Saturday as Fairfield and Sacred Heart face each other in the opening game. Then, following the conclusion of game one, there will be a ceremony on the field honoring Danni at 12:45 pm.

Following the ceremony, the Seawolves take the field and play the Stags at 1:00 p.m. Then, Stony Brook closes out the tournament at 3:00 p.m. with one last game against the Pioneers.
