Volleyball Surges into Win Column with Sweep of NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. — The Stony Brook volleyball team is on the board in the spring 2021 season.

The Seawolves swept new America East member NJIT in straight sets in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Stony Brook (2-5 overall) improved to 2-2 in conference play.

Coach Kristin Belzung earned her 50th career win with the Game 2 victory.

In the second match, Stony Brook rallied from a 10-2 deficit in the second set. The Seawolves took the lead, 13-12, on a kill from Leoni Kunz.

In the second match, Torii Henry had a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs. Amiyah De'Long had 13 kills.

The Seawolves had 17 aces over two matches.

"I'm really proud of our group for not only coming in locked in and executing the game plan, but staying focused and continuing to adapt throughout the match," Belzung said. "Our serving really got us off to a great start and didn't allow NJIT to get into a rhythm. In addition, we were really balanced offensively throughout the day and were able to get kills from different people as we needed them.

"It feels good to have a couple wins under our belts as we come back home for a pair against New Hampshire next weekend."
