Tennis Drops Tight Match Against St. John's

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook tennis team put together a strong singles performance against St. John's on Wednesday, but dropped the doubles point and ultimately fell in the match, 4-3.

The Johnnies took the doubles point after a duo of Mathilde Sreeves and Nolwenn Cardoso lost, 6-3, and Elizabeth Pam and Loreto Villalba-Rubio, fell 6-4.

Stony Brook battled in singles, but it wasn't enough to win the match.

"St. John's was too good today," head coach Gary Glassman said. "The doubles point was crucial, and it was too tough of a hill to climb in singles."

Sasha Bekirova, Cardoso and Chandrika Joshi all earned singles victories. Joshi dropped the opening set to Camila Ordonez, but battled back and took the final two to win.

Stony Brook (4-3) will return to action this Saturday, hosting Fordham.
