STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Evan Giordano continues to crush America East pitching.
Giordano, a junior third baseman from Sewell, N.J., drove in six runs on Friday as the Stony Brook baseball team swept a doubleheader against Hartford, 5-2 and 7-1, at Joe Nathan Field.
Stony Brook (10-7, 6-0 AE) is the lone unbeaten team in America East play.
After
Sam Turcotte surrendered a pair of first-inning runs in the opener, he combined with Game 2 starter
Jared Milch to toss 13 consecutive scoreless frames.
Milch actually took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning of Game 2 and retired 15 straight Hartford batters at one point. He turned the ball over to
Josh O'Neill for the eighth.
Turcotte produced the first complete game of his collegiate career in the seven-inning opener.
Milch's performance was the longest scoreless outing of his career.
"I had a four-pitch mix going, just mixing speeds and keeping them off-balance," Milch said. "My defense was amazing behind me."
In Game 1, Giordano capped a 10-pitch plate appearance by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning that evened the score at 2. Giordano then delivered a tiebreaking two-out, two-run double in the sixth and
Chris Hamilton followed with his own run-scoring double.
In the nightcap, Giordano blasted a three-run homer in the fifth to open a 4-0 lead.
Giordano extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He is hitting .455 (20-for-44) during that stretch. Giordano has 10 RBIs in his past four games.
"I was just trying to go up there and get a pitch I can drive and do some damage with," Giordano said about the long ball. "He gave me one inside. I just turned on it and got a lot of it."
