STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Shane Paradine and
John Tuccillo are teammates, fellow catchers, roommates and close friends. They also consecutively homered on Saturday.
Paradine, Tuccillo,
Stanton Leuthner and
Evan Fox all blasted homers as the Stony Brook baseball team defeated Binghamton, 13-9, in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Joe Nathan Field.
The America East-leading Seawolves had dropped the opener, 10-0, for their fourth defeat in five games.
Tuccillo and Paradine had back-to-back homers in the second inning. Leuthner then produced a three-run long ball in the third as Stony Brook opened a 10-2 lead.
"It's pretty awesome to be doing it with him," Tuccillo said of Paradine. "Me and Shane have a great relationship. I look at him like my little brother. I just try to lead him, take care of him and show him the right way. We have a great relationship. He's one of my closest friends on the team. I love seeing him do well. It's awesome to go back-to-back with him."
Fox's homer came in the fifth and was the first of his collegiate career.
"I was just trying to make hard contact and put the ball in play," Fox said. "It's a 1-0 count, so I was trying to hit the ball hard. Good things happen when you do that."
In Game 1, the Seawolves mustered only two hits and starter
Sam Turcotte was charged with five runs on nine hits, two walks and a hit batter in four innings.
The teams complete the series on Sunday with a noon doubleheader at Joe Nathan Field.
