Softball Flirts with No-Hitter, but Falls on Final Day of AE Tournament

BALTIMORE — Dawn Bodrug provided a superb effort in the circle, taking a no-hit bid two outs into the sixth inning on Saturday.

Unfortunately for the Seawolves, UMBC's lone hit of the game lifted it to the America East championship.

Sierra Pierce's single down the third-base line plated Julia Keffler, who had worked a two-out walk in the sixth, and the top-seeded Retrievers defeated third-seeded Stony Brook, 1-0.

Stony Brook also had fallen to UMBC on Friday and would have required two wins against the Retrievers on Saturday in order to claim the program's first conference championship since 2013.

The Seawolves completed their season 27-16.

Courtney Coppersmith tossed a two-hit shutout for UMBC.

The final-day matchup was a repeat of the same two opponents who met in 2019.

Bodrug as well as Nicole McCarvill and Melissa Rahrich were named to the All-Championship team.
