STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook softball team will head to Baltimore for next week's America East tournament.
In a winner-take-all game to determine the conference champion on Saturday, UMBC defeated the Seawolves 4-1 to claim the league's regular-season crown.
Stony Brook had been one out from clinching the title in Game 2 on Friday, but the Retrievers rallied with three seventh-inning runs for the win to remain alive.
The Seawolves will be the No. 3 seed and play second-seeded UAlbany on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at UMBC on Day 1 of the conference tourney.
In Saturday's decisive game, UMBC ace Courtney Coppersmith held Stony Brook hitless until a two-out single in the fifth by
Julianna Sanzone.
