Kunz Earns Third Double-Double as Seawolves Fall in Battle of Long Island

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Sophomore Leoni Kunz recorded her third double-double of the 2021 campaign with 11 kills and 11 digs, but the Stony Brook University women's volleyball team fell in the Battle of Long Island on Tuesday night. The Seawolves battled tough, but Hofstra ultimately took the match in straight sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-23).

After dropping the opening frame of the night, Stony Brook was able to battle and take a late lead in each of the final two stanzas. Hofstra was able to hold off the Seawolves' comeback effort in the second and third sets, respectively.

An attack error put the hosts up 21-20 in the second, but the Pride would rally for three in a row. An Erin Garr kill would bring the set even, before Hofstra took the final two points. In the third set, Stony Brook was able to compile leads of 14-10 and 17-14, but the Pride responded with runs of 4-0 to tie it at 14-14 and then 6-0 to go up 20-17. The Seawolves again responded, knotting the set at 20-20, but the visitors recorded five of the final eight points needed to close out the match.

The Seawolves and Pride were even in kills (33) on the evening, but were unable to overcome a 10-1 Hofstra advantage in aces as they fell in the first of a five-match homestand at Pritchard Gym.
