Football Readies for Empire State Clash with UAlbany: 5 Things to Know

10/28/2022 12:29:00 PM

THE BASICS: Stony Brook and UAlbany are set for an Empire State clash on Saturday, October 29, at 1 p.m., as the teams will play for the Golden Apple Trophy. The game will air on FloFootball with Rodger Wyland (play-by-play) and Michael Johnson Jr. (analyst) on the call.

THE MATCHUP: The Seawolves are 10-13 all-time against the Great Danes. Stony Brook has posted a 6-4 record over its last 10 meetings with UAlbany dating back to November 26, 2011. The Seawolves are 2-6 at UAlbany, but were victorious in their last trip up north when they claimed the Golden Apple on March 27, 2020, when they picked up a 21-7 victory over the Great Danes.

THE KID FROM OCEANSIDE: True-freshman quarterback Charlie McKee has burst on to the scene for the Seawolves over the last three games. McKee is 54-83 through the air for 678 yards and six touchdowns. He has completed 65.0 percent of his passes and his pass efficiency rating of 232.5 against Maine was the best by a Seawolves signal caller with at least 20 attempts in nearly 11 years. The freshman's three touchdown passes in the win over Maine, were the most by a Seawolves quarterback since the 2019 season when Tyquell Fields threw for three TDs against UAlbany on November 23. On October 23, he was tabbed CAA Football Rookie of the Week and Stats Perform National Rookie Player of the Week. He became the first member of the Stony Brook football program to earn National Player of the Week honors since John Haggart was named the Stats Perform Defensive Player of the Week during the 2016 season.

RD 30: With a season-high 12 tackles against Maine, Reidgee Dimanche recorded his fourth 10-plus tackle game and currently ranks tied for second in the CAA in that category with 66 on the season. The graduate has registered 10 or more tackles in four of the Seawolves' last five games. He has also tallied 4.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one interception over seven games.

LUCKY 24: Since the 2011 season, SBU has compiled a 51-6 record when scoring 24 or more points in a game. With 28 points against Maine, the Seawolves registered their most points in a game this season and eclipsed the 24-point mark for the first time in 2022.
