ELON, N.C. — The Stony Brook volleyball team was defeated by the Elon Phoenix in straight sets (18-25, 23-25, 21-25) on Saturday afternoon at the Schar Center in Elon, N.C.
After dropping the first set 18-25, Stony Brook went on to put forth hard fought battles in the second and third sets, but Elon would pull away late to, ultimately, seal the win.
Stony Brook bounced right back in the second set, as the Seawolves stormed to an early 3-0 lead to get the action going. In a back-and-forth set, the Phoenix would go on a 9-2 run to take a 19-13 lead which was the biggest of the set. However, Stony Brook came charging back to trail by one point at 24-23, giving themselves a chance to tie the set up. Ultimately, Elon would capture the final point to secure the set, 23-25.
Elon closed the match by knocking off the Seawolves, 25-21, in the third set to take the home victory.
Junior middle blocker
Abby Campbell and freshman outside hitter
Kali Moore paced the offensive attack in the final set for Stony Brook, tallying three kills each. For the match, Campbell led the squad with 10 kills this afternoon and Moore finished right behind the middle blocker with nine kills.
STATS AND NOTES
- Campbell recorded a team-high 10 kills on .400 hitting for the Seawolves. It was the 12th time this season that she finished a match with 10 or more kills. The middle blocker also registered four blocks.
- Moore finished her afternoon with nine kills, eight digs, two aces and a block. The rookie is just 10 kills away from 300 on the season.
- Junior libero Julia Patsos picked up 17-digs, securing her 300th dig of the season. It was the 18th time this season that Patsos picked up 10 or more digs.
- Junior setter Torri Henry handed out 21 assists and picked up nine digs. Henry reached the 800 assist mark for the season after her seventh dime this afternoon.
- Junior outside hitter Lauren Schmitz tallied six kills, four digs and two blocks.
NEXT UP
Stony Brook will play its final regular season match of the 2022 campaign tomorrow, November 13 at 2:00 p.m. when it clashes with Elon for the final contest of the series.
