RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook football graduate defensive back
Carthell Flowers-Lloyd has been selected to the All-CAA Football Third Team as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Flowers-Lloyd had a standout final season on Long Island and as a result takes home All-Conference honors for the first time in his career.
The Syracuse, N.Y. native totaled 70 tackles (40 solo, 30 assists), 14 TFLs, two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Both his interception and fumble recovery were returned for touchdowns.
Flowers-Lloyd ranked second on the team in total tackles, second in solo tackles, first in TFLs, tied for third in sacks, and was one of three players to record one interception this season. The graduate finished the regular season tied for third in the CAA in tackles for loss, tied for 19
th in total tackles, and was 15
th in the league in solo tackles.
He began the season with a bang as he recorded six tackles, two TFLs, and one sack, which forced a fumble that he scooped up and ran into the end zone for a touchdown in Week 1. The touchdown was the first of his collegiate career.
Flowers-Lloyd made a career-high tying 13 tackles in the Seawolves' Week 5 contest against William & Mary at LaValle Stadium. He closed the season with a pair of standout defensive efforts. In Week 11, he made eight tackles against Towson. He followed that performance up by tallying nine tackles (seven solo, two assists), two TFLs, one sack, and one interception that went for a touchdown in the season finale at Monmouth on November 19. The interception was the first of his career and the sack was the second of the season.
Over his two-year career at Stony Brook, Flowers-Lloyd recorded 142 tackles (95 solo, 57 assists), 22 TFLs, five sacks, and one interception. He was named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week on October 25, 2021.
