BALTIMORE, Md. – The Stony Brook University softball team (20-12, 1-3 America East) fell to UMBC (21-6, 6-2 America East) in both games of a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday. The Seawolves fell to the Retrievers, 5-1, in the first game of the day. Stony Brook was then topped by UMBC, 3-0, in game two.
The Seawolves received two complete game performances from inside the circle. Graduate pitcher
Dawn Bodrug went the distance in game one as she struck out nine batters in the process. Senior pitcher
Shelbi Denman followed suit in game two tossing the full six innings and striking out five Retrievers.
GAME 1: STONY BROOK – 1, UMBC – 5
- Sophomore infielder Sofia Chambers singled up the middle in the top of the second inning. Chambers' two-out RBI single brought in senior infielder Lindsey Osmer.
- Bodrug tossed her 15th complete game of the season and 40th of her career. The graduate went 6.0 innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits. Bodrug's nine strikeouts are tied for the most strikeouts she has thrown against UMBC (nine vs. UMBC on 5/7/2021).
- Osmer went 2-2 at the dish with a double, a single, and a run scored. It was her fifth multi-hit game this season.
- Junior outfielder Shauna Nuss went 1-3 at the plate with a bunt single in the top of the fifth inning.
GAME 2: STONY BROOK – 0, UMBC – 3
- Denman got the start for Stony Brook and went the complete 6.0 innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits. She struck out five and only walked one as her record fell to 6-6. Denman tossed her sixth complete game of the season and 18th of her career.
- Sophomore outfielder Alicia Orosco went 1-2 at the plate with a single in the top of the first inning. Orosco has reached base in 10 out of her last 11 contests.
- Chambers went 1-3 at the dish with a single to third in the top of the fifth inning where she was able to reach second off an error by the third baseman. She extends her on base streak to six games in a row.
- Junior infielder Brooke Dye added a hit in the top of the third inning off a bunt single.

Stony Brook is back in action when they travel to Vestal, N.Y. to take on New York foe Binghamton for a on Apr. 16-17. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, while Sunday will commence at 12 p.m.
