STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook University graduate punter
Mitchell Wright has been selected to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society as announced by the organization.
The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of football student-athletes from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA, and sprint football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Wright was a Multidisciplinary Studies Major in undergrad with concentrations in Chemistry and Biology. Wright continued his studies at Stony Brook in graduate school. He is in the Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care and Bioethics Master's program, and is planning to graduate this May.
The punter appeared in 27 games over the course of his career at Stony Brook, which included seeing action in all 11 games this past season. In 2021, he attempted 60 punts and racked up 2,420 yards for 40.3 yards per punt. He pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 24 times and recorded eight punts of 50 or more yards, including a season-long 66-yard boot in a win over Delaware on October 16.
Members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have completed their final year of playing eligibility in Fall 2021; attained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2; met all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards his degree requirements; and been a starter or significant contributor throughout the 2021 season.
