LOWELL, Mass. — Dawn Bodrug struck out three to secure the single-season strikeout crown and
Corinne Badger launched her 16th home run of the season, tying her for fourth all-time on the Stony Brook Softball single-season home run chart but the Seawolves dropped a 10-2 decision at UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon in the squad's regular season finale.
Bodrug's three strikeout victims increased her season total to 285, snapping Stephanie Poetzsch's 20-year-old record of 282 set in 2002.
The catcher sent the 1-1 pitch deep over the fence in left-center as part of a two-run frame but the Stony Brook offense was limited outside of that inning.
STATS AND NOTES
- Badger's 16th long ball of the year brings her into a tie with Bria Green, who hit that number in 2014. Only Melissa Rahrich (17), Hayley Durham (17) and Green (19) had more in a campaign than the junior catcher.
- Outside of the last two seasons from Bodrug, the last time a Seawolves pitcher recorded a pair of 200-strikeout seasons in a career was Alyssa Struzenberg, who hit the number three times from 2008-10. Poetzsch did it twice, in 2001 and her record-breaking campaign of 2002. The righty finishes with 606 strikeouts for her career, good for fourth all-time on the Seawolves' charts.
- Ashley Jacobsen finished the year on a six-game hitting streak, recording a knock in 12 of her last 14 appearances. 17 of her 20 hits on the season came since April 17's doubleheader against Binghamton.
- Stony Brook's 31 wins are the second-highest since the 2014 campaign and its second 30-win year in the last three full seasons (32, 2019).
