STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook football cornerbacks coach Diamond Weaver has been named to FootballScoop's second annual Minority Watch List/Rising Stars. Weaver is one of approximately 250 coaches and personnel from around the nation to earn the honor.

"FootballScoop is like Facebook for football coaches so the opportunity to be recognized on that platform is an honor. With the current climate in our profession, especially in the National Football League regarding the lack of minority coaches, I applaud them for their efforts to create a spotlight for up-and-coming coaches. I am most proud of the recognition for my journey to get to this point professionally. A journey of staying persistent and being adaptable," said coach Weaver as he shared his thoughts on being selected to the watch list.

Weaver is accompanied by coaches such as Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, and Marshall head coach Charles Huff amongst a plethora of other rising coaches around the game.

The list was compiled with input from double-digit NFL coaches and scouts, more than 100 college coaches and staffers, as well a number of other figures in football, which included family members of the honorees, journalists, the FootballScoop staff, and a panel of experts.

Weaver joined the Stony Brook staff in April of 2019 as the cornerbacks coach. Under his tutelage that season, Gavin Heslop was tabbed to the All-CAA Third Team and went on to sign with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.

He helped the Seawolves' defense limit opposing offenses to 22.9 points per game last season, the fifth-lowest total amongst CAA teams. Stony Brook closed the 2021 campaign 4-1 over its final five games and its defense held opponents to 19.0 points per game and forced 11 takeaways over the span.
