Stony Brook Sweeps St. Francis Brooklyn to Close Non-Conference Play

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The Stony Brook volleyball team (5-6) closed out non-conference play with a sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn (6-10) on Wednesday evening. The Seawolves rolled to victory as they knocked off the Terriers, 25-16, 25-22, 25-23, en route to their second sweep of the season.

Stony Brook took control of the match right from the initial set as it won in dominating fashion. After leading, 13-11, the Seawolves went on an 8-1 scoring run to open up a 21-12 lead. From there, Stony Brook was able to close out the set by the final score of 25-16 to go up 1-0 in the match.

The teams played a pair of back-and-forth sets in the second and third, but Stony Brook was able to best St. Francis Brooklyn thanks to late runs down the stretch in each of those frames.

The Seawolves used a 5-1 run down the stretch to seal the win in the second set, 25-22. Stony Brook then locked up the third set in come-from-behind fashion by outscoring the Terriers, 6-1, to clinch the set by the final score of 25-23, after trailing 22-20.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Great to head home from Brooklyn with a W. Overall, I thought we did some good defensive things in tight situations that should build confidence. We served really well in the first set and then got a little too high-error in the second and third, but finding a way to grit out a sweep is always a good night. It was great to get Kali Moore in front of a home crowd and overall I thought tonight was a great opportunity to get better as we prep for Towson in Pritchard this weekend," said head coach Kristin Belzung.
