STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior catcher Corinne Badger has been recognized and honored amongst some of the best players in the country.
The Pleasant Valley, N.Y. native was named to the 2023 Extra Inning Softball Position Rankings for Catchers according to Extra Inning Softball on Tuesday. The senior was ranked as the 20th best catcher in the country.
"It certainly is great for Corinne to represent Stony Brook Softball and be included with the terrific players on this list. She is putting in the work to elevate her game and preparing to have an exciting season," said head coach Megan T. Bryant.
Badger had a stellar junior campaign last season as she led the team in home runs (16), RBI (44), total-bases (101), runs (33), slugging (.716), and OPS (1.093) to earn her spot on the American East All-Conference First Team and NFCA All-Region Third Team. For the conference, Badger led the league in slugging and home runs, second in OPS, tied for second in runs scored and second in RBI.
After a historic weekend at the FIU Tournament last season from February 25 - February 27, the catcher was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA DI Player of the Week. Stony Brook's backstop became the first student-athlete in program history to claim the National Player of the Week honor. Badger went 6-12 at the dish with six home runs and 11 RBI. She slashed .500/.571/2.000, went four for her first four with four homers, and was the hero versus Brown as she won the game for the Seawolves with a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The 2022 Seawolves schedule features three non-conference tournaments, matchups against three 2022 NCAA Tournament teams, and 23 home contests which will include opponents from 16 different conferences. The full slate can be found here.
