Earle Ties High Jump Program Record At Wagner Invite

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Junior Alexandria Earle led the way for the Seawolves tying the program record in the high jump and earning a first-place finish with a mark of 1.70m at the Wagner College Invitational. The invite was hosted by Wagner College on Friday at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
 
The team came home with one first-place finish and four top five finishes in the opening meet of the 2023 calendar year.
 
Earlier in the day, junior Danella Dawkins finished in first-place in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries, with a time of 8.80, helping her advance to the final head and setting a new personal best. The Jamaican finished in fourth-place, after running a 9.04 in the final 60 meter dash heat.
 
To close the day out, graduate Siara Guevara, sophomore Paulina Gasparis, senior Aristea Franks, and freshman Kyra Franks combined for a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay. They finished in 4:05.84, just behind Rider and NJIT.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Graduate Dana Cerbone earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 meter event, finishing in 25.74. Sophomore Jada Hodge followed with a sixth-place finish, finishing in 26.16. Dawkins also placed within the top 15 with a final time of 26.69.
  • Following a sixth-place finish in the 60 meter dash prelims at 7.83, Hodge advanced to the final heat and recorded a time of 7.76 for fourth-place.
  • The squad had three finishers in the top-10 for the one mile race, as junior Nicole Garcia placed-fifth with a time of 5:11.58, sophomore Niahm Durcan in sixth at 5:12.29, and freshman Amelie Guzman rounding out the top-10 with a 5:23.33 finish. 
  • Earle also earned a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a score of 4.84. 
  • Sophomore Enyero Omokeni came in eighth-place in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line at 59.32. 
  • Graduate Rachel Ruggiero finished eighth in the 800 meter dash with a final time of 2:29.24.

"We opened the New Year with the Wagner Invitational today. It was an opportunity for both teams to shake off the last of the Holiday spirit and get refocused for the season ahead. For the men, Patrick Abel led the way, tying the school record for the 60m and also taking second in the 200m. An exciting start to the season for him. Alexandria Earle showed the way for the women by winning the High Jump, Jade and Danella had encouraging season opening performances in the 60m and hurdles, respectively," said head coach Andy Ronan.

The Seawolves are back on the track Saturday, January 14 when they travel back to Staten Island for the Penn 10-Team Select at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
