Volleyball Falls in 3-0 Sweep to Towson

TOWSON, Md. - The Stony Brook volleyball team fell to Towson in three sets (23-25, 19-25, 15-25) on Saturday evening at TU Arena. Leoni Kunz finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Seawolves attack. Defensively, the squad had three players reach double figures in digs, including Julia Patsos' 15, another 11 from Torri Henry and 10 more from Kunz.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

SET 1 | The Seawolves dropped set one, 25-23, despite a strong showing on the attacking end. Stony Brook put together a .357 attack percentage with 12 kills in the set loss. The squad fell behind early 4-0, but scored five consecutive points following a kill by Stanwood to take the 6-5 lead. The team would then take a 10-7 lead after a kill by Abby Campbell. Later in the set, the after the score was tied at 19 all, the Tigers would ultimately secure the set by tallying 4 of the next points to take a 23-20 lead and eventually the victory. 
 

SET 2 | A 25-19 set-two loss put Stony Brook behind two sets to none in the match. The Seawolves jumped out to an early 6-2 lead from a kill by Stanwood. However, the Tigers stormed back to score 13 of the next 15 points to take advantage of the set and eventually the victory.

SET 3 | Towson finished the sweep with a set-three win. The Seawolves fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before falling in the set 25-15.

GAME NOTES 

  • Stony Brook had three players in double figures in digs (Patsos, Henry and Kunz).
  • Henry had a team-high two aces in the loss.
  • Kunz had a team-high eight kills for Stony Brook.
  • Stony Brook got a match-high 15 digs from Patsos.
  • Seawolves' attackers were helped by a team-high 23 assists from Henry.
  • The loss dropped Stony Brook's record to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in CAA play.
NEXT UP
The Seawolves return to the court tomorrow at 2 p.m. for the second of two matches against the Tigers in Maryland. The match is set to broadcast on FloVolleyball.
