MONTREAL – Two Stony Brook alumni in
Carthell Flowers-Lloyd of the Hamilton Tiger-cats and Tyrice Beverette of the Montreal Alouettes have reached the Canadian Football League Semi-Final, and will play against each other with a spot in the Grey Cup on the line on Saturday.
Flowers-Lloyd and Beverette combined for six seasons played at Stony Brook and have totaled six seasons of professional football.

Chuck Priore. "They're two terrific football players and people that had a significant impact on our program. They're high energy guys that love the game and it's no surprise they're where they are professionally."
Flowers-Lloyd is in his first season professionally after playing for Stony Brook in the 2021 and 2022 seasons as a grad transfer from Eastern Michigan. As a Seawolf, Flowers-Lloyd played in 20 games totaling 142 tackles, 23.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and an interception. He recorded a 41-yard pick-six in his final collegiate game on Nov. 19, 2022, against Monmouth.
With the Tiger-Cats, Flowers-Lloyd has appeared in all 18 games and made 31 tackles on special teams in 2023, getting into the tackle sheet in all but three games in his first professional season.
Beverette spent five seasons at Stony Brook from 2013-17, playing in 44 games for the Seawolves across his final four years. The defensive back totaled 262 tackles in his time on the Island, adding 27.5 TFLs, 14.0 sacks, seven forced fumbles, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries to a filled-up stat sheet.
The Lakewood, New Jersey native is in his fifth professional season, with four coming in the CFL. He signed with the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals in May 2018, but was released after training camp. He signed with Hamilton in 2019 and played for the Tiger-Cats in 2019 and 2021 (2020 was canceled due to COVID) Beverette signed with Montreal in 2022, where he has played ever since.
In 2023, Beverette has put up his best numbers, racking up 109 tackles with seven sacks and two touchdowns with the Alouettes. He was named the team's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in the team's postseason awards.
Hamilton (8-10) and Montreal (11-7) will face off from Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. The winner will play the Toronto Argonauts on Nov. 11 in the East Division Final.
The duo represents two of four players currently on active rosters in North America, joining Tyrone Wheatley, Jr. of the NFL's New England Patriots and Gavin Heslop, who recently signed with the XFL's Houston Roughnecks.
