STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 15/16 Delaware, 12-9, on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. Despite a fourth quarter come-from-behind attempt by the Seawolves, the Blue Hens were able to hold on to secure their fifth consecutive win in CAA play.
Stony Brook trailed 11-5 with 9:11 to play in the fourth quarter when it began its comeback. The Seawolves went on to score four consecutive goals over a near five-minute span to cut the deficit to 11-9 with 4:48 to play in the game.
Over Stony Brook's fourth quarter scoring run, it was senior attackman
Dylan Pallonetti and graduate attackman
Jonathan Huber who led the charge offensively. The duo each scored two goals apiece over the span. For Huber the goals were his first two of the game, while Pallonetti registered a hat trick.
Pallonetti extended his goal scoring streak to 40 games, which continues to be the longest such streak in the nation. His three goals led the team today as he upped his goal scoring total to a team-best 40 on the season.
Following Pallonetti's goal to make it 11-9 with 4:48 to play in the game, Delaware struck back one minute later. Jason Kolar found the back of the net for the Blue Hens to give them the 12-9 advantage, a score that they would hold on to win by.
Stony Brook controlled the face-off X as it won 15-of-25 attempts. The duo of freshman
Robbie Smith and sophomore
Declan Mitchell proved to be a recipe for success as Smith won nine face-offs and Mitchell captured six.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"I thought we had a pretty good week of practice and I thought we had a good plan in place. There were moments today where we played really well. Self-inflicted things cost you against good teams, and we made a lot of mistakes. Give credit to Delaware, they are a really talented team, and they took advantage every time we made a mistake," said head coach
Anthony Gilardi.
