STONY BROOK, N.Y. – There was no shortage of offense at University Field on Saturday afternoon as Stony Brook and Providence combined to hit eight home runs with the Friars picking up the 12-7 victory. Both teams hit four home runs, respectively, as junior infielder
Ashley Jacobson mashed a pair of homers for the Seawolves.
Stony Brook struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Jacobson launched a solo home run to left center field to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead. Sophomore catcher
Emily Reinstein extended Stony Brook's early lead to 2-0 when she clobbered her second home run of the season, a solo shot to center field.
Providence struck back in the top of the third inning when it plated four runs in the frame. The Friars added a run in the top of the fourth to make it 5-2 in their favor and they held the lead by that score until Stony Brook plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning courtesy of Jacobson. Jacobson crushed her second home run of the day, a two-run homer, to chip away at Providence's lead and cut the deficit to 5-4.
The Friars pulled away in the top of the seventh inning when they scored seven runs on six hits in the frame. Providence was fueled by a pair of home runs in the inning as Douma hit a solo shot and then Renny launched a three-run home run to cap off the scoring in the top half of the seventh.
Stony Brook rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning and sent three runs across. After junior infielder
Sofia Chambers flew out to lead off the inning, junior outfielder
Alicia Orosco doubled, and freshman infielder
Naiah Ackerman reached on an error to give the Seawolves runners on the corners with one out.
Senior catcher
Corinne Badger stepped to the plate and mashed a three-run home run to make it 12-7 in favor of Providence. For Badger, it was her team-leading ninth home run of the season.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"We have been playing good softball as of late and we really struggled in all three aspects of the game today. We did some nice things, there were a lot of balls flying out of the park here today on both sides – I appreciate our home runs, but I thought we could have been more productive offensively, more consistently, and answered their scoring and get into a back-and-forth game. We had a nice little push at the end, but didn't do enough in the middle innings," said head coach
Megan T. Bryant.
