STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook softball team secured its second consecutive run-rule victory with a 9-1 win over Iona on Tuesday afternoon at University Field.
The Seawolves were paced by junior infielder
Ashley Jacobson, sophomore outfielder
Alyssa Costello, and freshman utility
Hailey Guerrero. All three student-athletes went 2-3 at the plate and recorded a home run.
Iona got on the board first with a solo home run to center by junior catcher Jamie Sheeran that put the Gaels up 1-0 in the top of the first. However, it would be all Stony Brook for the remainder of the contest. Costello got the hot hitting started with a solo homer of her own in the bottom of the first to tie the contest 1-1.
Senior catcher
Corinne Badger kept the momentum rolling with a double to left center which plated senior infielder
Brooke Dye to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead. Junior utility
Catherine Anne Kupinski reached on an error by Iona's shortstop which allowed senior outfielder
Alicia Orosco to score in the third.
Orosco added a RBI of her own with a SAC fly to left field in the top of the fourth to bring home Guerrero and increase the squad's lead to 5-1. Jacobson and Guerrero smashed back-to-back two-run home runs in the fifth inning to seal the victory for Stony Brook.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"A really well-played game today in all three parts, pitching, defense, and offensively. It's great to see everything come together," said head coach
Megan T. Bryant.
"For me, it's continuing to have good at-bats and doing whatever I can to help out my team because we have been struggling a little bit offensively this season. But, just making sure I am seeing the ball in the zone and getting good swings on the ball that way I can help out my team and score some runs," said junior infielder
Ashley Jacobson.
"It feels really great. I am just really excited and so happy that I can help my team in any way that I could today. That was my main goal just like Sunday to just get on base any way that I can and if it was a home run then that's the way I had to do it," said freshman utility
Hailey Guerrero on her first career home run.
