STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Football alumnus
Carthell Flowers-Lloyd has inked a professional contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL) as announced by the team today.
Flowers-Lloyd was named to the All-CAA Football Third Team and was selected to the prestigious National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society following his final season on Long Island.
In 2022, he totaled 70 tackles (40 solo, 30 assists), 14 TFLs, two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Both his interception and fumble recovery were returned for touchdowns.
The Syracuse, N.Y. native ranked second on the team in total tackles, second in solo tackles, first in TFLs, tied for third in sacks, and was one of three players to record one interception this past season. The graduate finished the regular season tied for third in the CAA in tackles for loss, tied for 19
th in total tackles, and was 15
th in the league in solo tackles.
Over his two-year career at Stony Brook, Flowers-Lloyd recorded 142 tackles (95 solo, 57 assists), 22 TFLs, five sacks, and one interception. He was named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week on October 25, 2021.
Flowers-Lloyd joins fellow teammates
Damien Caffrey,
Eric Black, and
Delante Hellams Jr. who all earned professional opportunities in the past week. Caffrey signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears (NFL), while Black was invited to mini-camp by the New York Giants (NFL), and Hellams Jr. earned a mini-camp invite from the Washington Commanders (NFL).
The Tiger-Cats kick-off the 2023 season on Saturday, May 27, when they take on the Toronto Argonauts at Tim Horton Field in Hamilton, Ontario.
