Moore and Kunz Register Double-Doubles; Seawolves Prevail in Five Sets Over N.C. A&T

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Kali Moore and Leoni Kunz both notched double-doubles, leading Stony Brook to a five-set win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday at Pritchard Gymnasium. The Seawolves were led by double-doubles from Moore, who had 17 kills and 15 digs, and Kunz, who had 18 kills and 13 digs. Ava Jackson added 12 kills offensively and Torri Henry posted a career-high 61 assists. On the defensive end, Julia Patsos chipped in with 16 digs to go along with two blocks from Ayanna Pierre Louis.
 


HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Seawolves found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-22. N.C. A&T grabbed the advantage for good at 22-21 in a set that was tied up nine times before the Aggies took over in the second half of the stanza.
 


SET 2 | Stony Brook tied the match at 1-1 after a 25-18 second-set win. The Seawolves took the set, powered by a solid performance on the attacking side. Stony Brook registered a .324 attack percentage with 15 kills in the win. The Seawolves ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Stony Brook offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | N.C. A&T responded to win set number three, putting Stony Brook in a two sets to one hole. The Seawolves came up short by the score of 25-20. N.C. A&T grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was knotted up eight times before the Aggies took over the lead.

SET 4 | Stony Brook then responded to win set four 25-22 to force a fifth set. The Seawolves took the lead for good at 11-10 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Seawolves took over the lead.
 


SET 5 | Down two sets to one, Stony Brook fired back to win the final two sets, culminating in a 15-12 fifth-set victory, to take the match 3-2. The Seawolves took the lead for good at 9-8 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Seawolves took over the lead.

"This was a gritty win that showed a lot of composure from our team," head coach Kristin Belzung noted postgame. "There were opportunities to get too emotionally high or low and I thought we stayed in the moment and that's what allowed us to come away with the win. It was also valuable to have such a balanced offensive effort."

Stony Brook returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, October 1 against N.C. A&T. The Seawolves and Aggies close out the weekend with first serve set for noon from Pritchard Gymnasium.
